Club Steak with Pear and Onion Marmalade

 

SERVES 4

 

STEAKS

4 club steaks (200 g each)

Freshly ground black pepper

20 ml Marmite

Oil for frying

PEAR AND ONION MARMALADE

30 g butter

1 onion, sliced

Salt and pepper to taste

30 ml soft brown sugar

30 ml balsamic vinegar

1 x 410 g pear halves, drained and roughly chopped

 

Pre-heat the oven to 200 °C.  Season the steaks with pepper and marmite.  Brush the steaks with some of the oil. Heat a frying pan and fry the steaks for about 3 minute on each side. Spoon the steaks into an oven dish and allow to rest while you prepare the marmalade. Heat the butter in a small pot and fry the onions for about 5 minutes over low heat. Season with salt and pepper. Add the sugar and vinegar and simmer for 5 minutes. Add the apple and mix well, take care not to mash the apple. Put the steak into the oven for about 5 minutes (until done to your liking) and serve with the marmalade and chips.
